SUMMARY:16Hr First Aid in the Outdoors Course (2nd-3rd August 2025)
DESCRIPTION:We have commissioned another 16Hr First Aid in the Outdoors cou
 rse to take place over this weekend at Bibbys Farm.\nThis course is suitab
 le for any leaders undertaking outdoor activities with young people and is
  sufficient for any of the NGB activity qualifications.\n\nThe course fee 
 is £120 and includes A4 and credit card sized certificates for those succ
 essfully passing the course.\nThe course is non-residential and a packed l
 unch should be brought along\, ample hot drinks will be provided.\nA fair 
 amount of the course will be undertaken outdoors in "real" circumstances s
 o you need to dress appropriately and be prepared to be rolling around on 
 the floor outdoors no matter what the weather.\n\nWe are strictly limited 
 to 12 places so please complete the form below as soon as possible if you 
 want to book a place.\n\n\n\nThe course will cover the following:\n\nActiv
 ity First Aid – 20 Guided Learning Hours\, includes 2 Learner Units towa
 rds further qualifications\nThe course is a mixture of theory and practice
 . As the award falls under Ofqual\, identification is required (e.g. passp
 ort or driving licence – other forms of ID can be used\, please ask prio
 r to the course)\nAssessment is based on\n1. 5 observations and\n2. 2 writ
 ten papers\, a pass rate of 70% is required. Assuming a pass each learner 
 will receive A4 certificates (Activity 1st Aid and 2 learner units) and a 
 credit card sized Activity certificate.\n\nThe following topics will be co
 vered\n1. Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.\n1.1 
 Identify the role and responsibilities of a first aider.\n1.2 Identify how
  to minimise the risk of infection to self and others.\n1.3 Identify the n
 eed of establishing consent to provide first aid.\n1.4 Identify the first 
 aid equipment that should be available.\n1.5 Describe the safe use of firs
 t aid equipment.\n2. Be able to assess an incident.\n2.1 Conduct a scene s
 urvey.\n2.2 Conduct a primary survey of a casualty.\n2.3 Give examples of 
 when to call for help.\n3. Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who 
 is breathing normally.\n3.1 Assess a casualty’s level of consciousness.\
 n3.2 Open a casualty’s airway and check breathing.\n3.3 Identify when to
  place an unconscious casualty into the recovery position.\n3.4 Place an u
 nresponsive casualty into the recovery position.\n3.5 Manage a casualty wh
 o is in seizure.\n4. Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not
  breathing normally.\n4.1 Recognise the need to commence Cardiopulmonary R
 esuscitation.\n4.2 Demonstrate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation using a manik
 in.\n4.3 Identify the accepted modifications to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitat
 ion for children.\n4.4 Understand how the use of an Automated External Def
 ibrillator (AED) can have a major impact on a casualty suffering from Vent
 ricular Fibrillation (VF)\n5. Be able to recognise and assist a casualty w
 ho is choking.\n5.1 Describe how to identify a casualty with a\;\n• Part
 ially blocked airway\n• Completely blocked airway\n5.2 Administer first 
 aid to a casualty who is choking.\n6. Be able to manage a casualty with ex
 ternal bleeding.\n6.1 Identify the types of external bleeding.\n6.2 Contro
 l external bleeding.\n7. Be able to manage a casualty who is in shock.\n7.

 experiencing the effects Lyme’s or Veil’s Disease\n22.1 Describe how t
