We are aware that locally, the Fire & Rescue Service are tackling a fire on the moorlands near to us near Sheephouse Lane and Rivington Road.
This is not affecting us on-site or on nearby roads but people travelling to us from the Bolton / Rivington areas should choose their route to avoid the area.
Also, anyone planning on hiking routes to and from the site need to be aware of the issue and take sensible precautions to avoid the affected area or from disrupting the emergency services from doing their job.
On-site, due to the prolonged dry weather we are also implementing our Fire Risk Precautions on-site to ensure we don’t contribute to the existing problems.
As such – until further notice, the following advice is being given:
Whilst on-site at Bibbys Farm, any groups wishing to make use of an open fire should chat this through with the office first of all.
Groups wishing to use fires for cooking may still do so but with some restrictions. (See office for advice)
Social fires e.g. for sitting around at night should be avoided on our camping fields and groups may use our campfire circle for this purpose instead.
We do not want to spoil anyone’s fun and firelighting/Backwoods/Cooking is central to what we do as Scouts but we must respect the local current conditions and avoid having a fire-related incident to add to the emergency service’s current problems.
If in doubt, please ask.
